Recently, I got involved along with few of my romanian folks in a challenge, to develop our entrepreneurial/mental skills.
The challenge it’s called “one book per week” .
Put it bluntly: read at least one book about business or personal growth per week until the end of 2012.
Before moving on to the next book we have to do a little review for the one completed.
Yet, instead of doing a classic review I will share more practical tips which you can take and apply in your home based business.
The first book of the challenge is nothing else but Brian Tracy’s:
The Psychology of Selling- Increase Your Sales Faster and Easier Than You Ever Thought Possible.
Brian, is well known internationally for his programs on sales, marketing and self-improvement.
If building your online business is a priority, then this book is a strongly recommended.
Here are 10 main ideas I got after reading it:
1. Your success in business is a personal decision and it always starts with mastering the inner world-thoughts and feelings.
2. Rather than being pushy/ trying to pitch, position yourself as a friend and coach who is genuinely interested to help a person make the best decision.
3. Creativity is an important skill of a wealthy person.
While some have it since birth, this trait can be developed through constant traning: solving big problems, asking questions and brainstorming 20 new ideas for a goal you want to achieve.
4. To have more sales you must become a master in prospecting. Spend as much time as possible with potential clients.
5. Find your unique talents and focus on them. Diferentiate yourself all the time!
6. Each prospect/customer is different. Learn how to deal with different human personalities, including yours
7. The key in building more relationships/closing more sales is careful listening.
8. Promote the products you love and that are really useful to you.
9. The greatest asset you have is your mind. Commit to learn and grow constantly.
And the lucky #10 Make from integrity one of your highest values in business and life.
Your turn: Did you read Brian Tracy’s book?
If yes, what did you like about it?
What other sales/marketing books can you recommend?
Let’s meet in the comments area and share more ideas. I always love to hear your feedback/questions
PS: If you found this post useful please share it on Facebook, Twitter or Linked In. I appreciate your support!
To our prosperity,

Hi Radu,
Very informative post! Although I’m a great fan of Brian Tracy, I haven’t read this book yet. It’s going on my list right after I finish this comment.
You know these are all great points, but the ones that especially resonate with me are #2 and #7.
If you’re pushy you are accomplishing nothing, rather you are driving people away. And, if you are talking you cannot listen. (That’s why God gave us two ears, but only one mouth.)
Thank you so much for sharing what you learned from the book! Sounds like a great one!

Hey Ilka,
Brian Tracy is a super prolific author and trainer and coach..god, the list never ends.
Listening is giving..by listening you offer to a person a space to exist and manifest his/her free will, a real sign of respect.
Glad to see that your reading list is getting bigger and bigger
Thanks for taking the time to comment on my blog. I highly appreciate it
All the best,

Hi Radu!
This is a great list. A lot of good info and each point can easily be made into it’s own post
A couple of books that I would recommend are:
1) Who Moved My Cheese – its’ a very easy and quick read with a simple and very meaningful message.
2) Crush It – If anything else, this book is just motivating.
3) Great by Choice – I am currently reading this and so far I really love it!
Good luck with your challenge! You will do great! You are going to gain so much knowledge this year
And I am sure wisdom as well to separate the poor advice from the good.

Hey Elise
Glad you found the post useful!
What a valuable comment. I read “Who Moved My Cheese” and indeed it’s an awesome story.
Crush it is the book I will read this week.
The last title sounds very interesting. It’s on my reading list now.
Thanks for the encouragement and for the final note as well. Selectivity is something I look forward to develop this year.
I appreciate your input,

Hi Radu,
I love your review and top 10 takeaways.
Point #3 is one that really sticks for me. The more and more time I have spent over the years in my entrepreneurship journey, I have found this to be so abundantly true and applicable. It’s through this creativity that I feel I’ve found solutions for just about every situation I’ve encountered.
This book is going on my “to-read” list for 2012!

Radu,
I like point 1, because our inner mindset can keep us from progressing in our business. It could be fear of letting your personality come through or, believing what others have said about us in the past. A person’s self talk will affect how we act. There has to be some self-introspection to know what we are telling ourselves than we can change that self-talk..

Hey Mike,
Yep, the first step to change is awareness..what you think, how you feel about yourself. your work etc. When the inside is nurtured well, the outside will expand naturally.
Thanks for your comment,
Radu
